I. Agency History
Formerly titled “Southern Department of Food Management, Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan,” the section was changed into “Southern Region Branch, Agriculture and Food Agency, Executive Yuan” on January 30, 2004 in response to government policies of organizational streamlining, function strengthening, and regional agricultural development. The renamed agency includes agribusiness and governs Chiayi County and City, Tainan County and City, Kaohsiung County and City, Pingtung County, and Penghu County. In addition to implementing agriculture and food policies, it also takes active measures to respond to and reflect the needs of frontline farmers so as to guide agricultural development towards the goals of high quality, leisure-aligned, safe, and environmental
protection, while ensuring sufficient food storage for the armed forces and civilians. It is the aim of the section to implement various agriculture and food policy targets and strategies and develop diverse functions in production, living, and ecology for the agriculture and food industries.
II. Organization
In order to implement various agriculture and food policies, the section establishes its headquarters in Tainan City and three offices in Chiayi, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung, where agricultural products are produced and marketed to meet operational needs.
